Deadline nears for governor’s awards for the arts
The deadline for nominations for the Governor’s Awards for the Arts 2008 is Thursday, May 15. The Awards recognize significant contributions to the arts by Virginia artists, arts organization and those who support and encourage the arts. The 2008 Awards will be presented by Governor Timothy M. Kaine at a ceremony in Richmond in September.

The fifth annual downtown gala
Downtown revitalization continues with new restaurants, retail and residential spaces which translates into even more projects need for services from Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance, the historic district’s revitalization group. On May 10th HDR will again host their annual Renaissance Night event to raise private funds to support their myriad of programs and initiatives.

Betting on better health for our neighbors in need
Shenandoah County Free Clinic is selling tickets now for “A Night to Remember – At the Casino,” a fundraising event scheduled for Saturday evening, May 31, at Toms Brook Fire Hall. Social Hour will start at 6:15, followed by the opening of authentic gaming tables staffed by a professional gaming company. The $85 ticket price includes a heavy hors d’oeuvres buffet by Crossroads Catering, beer and wine, play money, and raffle tickets to win one of many prizes. A silent auction and 50/50 drawings will also run during the event.

John W. Flora joins board of directors of Shentel
Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) announced today that John W. Flora was elected to a three-year term on Shentel’s Board of Directors at the Company’s Annual Shareholders Meeting. Also at the meeting, Douglas C. Arthur and Tracy Fitzsimmons were re-elected for three-year terms.
