Belle Grove hosts living history days
Have you ever wondered what it might have been like to have lived in the late 18th century? Now you don’t have to. Come and enjoy a fun and educational family event. Modeled after PBS’s popular Antiques Road Show, Belle Grove’s Living History Days and Antique Appraisal Fair is one event that has a little bit of everything.
The public is invited to bring their collectibles and antiques to the Lower Level of Belle Grove’s Historic Manor House for professional verbal appraisals from antiques experts on Saturday, November 3rd 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. & Sunday, November 4th, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m
Visitors will also be surrounded by period dressed crafters selling their unique wares, such as wood work, pottery, and baskets. Stop by and visit the blacksmith, and silversmith, and be sure to tour the Shenandoah Long Rifles’ encampment , a talented group of 18th century pioneer re-enactors, who will be camped on Belle Grove’s Front Lawn demonstrating gunsmithing, knife-making, outdoor cooking & camp life. Children will love to see and learn about farm animals, and watch fresh cider and apple butter making.
Once inside Belle Grove’s 1797 Manor House on the Lower Level, visitors will enjoy open hearth cooking, weaving demonstrations, chair caning, basket weaving, and a visit with the potter. And don’t forget Belle Grove’s one of a kind gift shop!
On Belle Grove’s Main Level the weekend is made complete by performances the whole family will love. On Saturday, November 3, the Winchester Celtic Circle will perform Celtic music, Bill and Joyce Weaver will perform on Sunday, Nov. 4. Belle Grove is also pleased this year to have exhibits by the Shenandoah County Historical Society and the Newton History Center.
