Downtown speed dating
When Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance planned the first singles mixer in February of this year, event coordinators hoped to get 60 singles to sign up for Speed Dating.By the night of the event, 160 people had signed up and crowds packed both floors of Clementine restaurant where the date night was held.
. “It was much more fun than I expected, there were so many people there from all groups and ages. It was nice to finally see some new faces in this town” commented Speed Dating participant Micah Warnock, a Rockingham County Assessor.
Speed Dating will again be held at downtown restaurant, Clementine (153 South Main Street) on November 8th. Due to space restrictions, daters will be assigned into two groups, one starting at 5:00pm and the other at 7:00pm. Other changes have been made to streamline the event registration and sign-in process so everyone has ample time to meet and greet fellow daters.
Despite the changes, the structure of Speed Dating will remain the same. Everyone will be placed in groups of 20 (10 men and 10 women), according to age, and daters will rotate within their group to have ten, six-minute dates. Attendees are also encouraged to mingle with participants in other groups during scheduled socials before and after each dating session. Event coordinators expect registrations to pour into the office due to increased advertising along with word of mouth from those who enjoyed the event in February, “We’ve heard some really fun success stories from people who are still together as a result of meeting at Speed Dating” reports Alexis Morehouse, promotions manager with Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance “and at the very least, you get to meet other single friends in the community who want to go out and have a good time”.
Any proceeds that are raised from the event are contributed to Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance’s revitalization efforts. Registration forms can be accessed online at www.downtownharrisonburg.org or picked up at the Hardesty-Higgins House at 212 South Main Street (next to the library). Questions can be directed to Alexis or Kris at 540.432.8922.
