Historic Morven Park Mansion Reopens
The historic Morven Park Mansion will reopen to the public after an extensive four-year, eight-million dollar 'green' presevation project.
Often referred to as an “oasis” in the midst of Northern Virginia’s rapid development, the grounds of historic Morven Park offer 1,000 acres of pristine lawns, fields, and wooded areas, along with exquisite boxwood gardens and an extensive antique carriage collection.
Areas that once saw Union and Confederate troops skirmishing during the Civil War, and pure bred livestock grazing in the fields now host thousands of visitors each year attending equestrian events, festivals, guided tours, along with exceptional living history and educational programs. Historic Morven Park, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register, is one of the first historic landmark mansions of its size to install fire mist and geothermal climate control systems in the United States.
Throughout the preservation process, every consideration has been given to ensure that the construction is eco-friendly and the conservation of the majestic beauty of the mansion and the expansive property surrounding it is preserved for generations to come.
The mansion, which has been closed since July 4, 2005, will reopen on May 1, 2009 with free admission, including guided tours, Friday through Monday, May 1st - 4th.
